A craft show had been underway that morning in the old Armory building in the Mission district of San Francisco. Although the lobby appeared elegant, behind was a huge hanger-like open room with a floor filled with booths and tables.

The best time to shoot the interior of a building from the street is at night because the street-facing windows are less likely to reflect badly. Night is also good if one wishes to avoid mixing daylight color temperatures with incandescent lights.

This building was closed at night so did not need to be as brightly lit as it would if open at night. The dimly lit lobby evoked a mood.

The incandescent lighting gave this lobby a golden glow at night. The two runner carpets down the center were there to prevent slipping during the rainy season.

In this shot the guard wanted to sit before the shot was taken so that his face would not be revealed.

A curved lobby done in glass and marble. The guard's head was barely visible over the top of a matching marble desk.

Here a daylight exterior was mixed with an artificially lit interior. The exposure was adjusted to balance the two resulting in this bizarre look.
