A tour approached the lighthouse, excited to climb the stairs inside.

A round mirror reflected the group being taken on a tour of the lighthouse. The lighthouse looked distant and small in the mirror.

A sign next to the fence surrounding the lighthouse described its history and gave its particulars. The lighthouse's original cost was $50,000 back in 1894.

The base of the lighthouse was built on a concrete foundation. The base was handsome and strong.

A photograph showed: "Formal Portrait of a Head Light Keeper with 1st Assistant Keeper and 2nd Assistant Keeper." Back when the lighthouse was kerosene powered, the lenses and the windows had to be cleaned daily by the head light keeper and assistants.

A "Linen Cleaning Smock" was displayed on the wall inside the lighthouse. This was the kind of smock, "Worn while cleaning the Lens."

The lighthouse was constructed of brick with one round wall inside another. The air gap between the two walls help chimney away most of the soot from the lamp back when it was kerosene powered.

The lens was multi-paneled to create a Fresnel lens. It was constructed in France, shipped in pieces and assembled on location. In the old days, the inside of the lens had to be cleaned daily. With its modern electric lamp, the lens only needs to be cleaned once per year.

Steel Steps led up into the lens. On the tour, every person was given a chance to poke a head up inside the lens and to photograph its interior.
