Crabbing In Newport, An Oregon Beach Town
A crab pot with line and float coiled inside was one of many stacked on the sidewalk that afternoon.
The use of colored lines and decorated floats served to identify the owner of the pots when
found out in the open sea.
A forklift unloaded a truck across the street and stacked pots on the sidewalk.
Other forklifts moved the pots from the sidewalk into a warehouse.
The sidewalks on SW Bay Boulevard were too narrow to begin with, but were made even narrower when
crab pots were stacked in front of a warehouse.
A truck was parked on the other side of the street. It was full of crab pots that were being unloaded
and moved into a warehouse.
A tunnel through the warehouse revealed that, in addition to the sidewalk on the near side, the other side
had a dock.
Stacks of pots on wooden pallets were lined up along the dock behind the warehouse.
