Black-And-White, Color As Found Art

The pedestrian under pass below the Caltrain station at Mountain View was walled
using concrete. In this one section, the surface turned out flawed in an interesting
pattern.

A black-and-white advertisement had been placed under the wiper of a car
parked along Prospect Street. It was the only car on the street with
that ad, so the ad might really have been a personal note.

Inside the former prison, bricks had been painted black. Below a guard's walkway
thin shafts of sunlight pierced the gloom.
|
Someone had dabbed a bit of paint on the stucco side of a building
on 9th Street. Up close the dab resembled a bird.

A wedding event took place just off Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles.
It was held outdoors in an enclosed plaza. Paper cups were stacked
on a folding table at the right end near the cooler filled with soda pops.

An unusual barber pole was in a black-and-white checkered pattern.
On Sunday, the barber shop was closed, so the pole did not rotate.

A blackbird cast a black shadow on a sunny day. The dark grey curb and
the asphalt street created a very monotone look.

Ivy lined the sidewalk of Bryant Street where it passes over Delancey Street.
Each winter it is killed back so that it will not overgrown the side walk the
following year. Even though killed back, it still manages to almost block the
sidewalk by late fall.

A sheet of plywood was part of a fence protecting the public from a construction
site. On the plywood was the classic American phrase, "Post No Bills."

The ice rink in Justin Herman Plaza was cooled with sub-freezing liquid
pumped under the flat water surface. These were a few of the pipes used.

A building was faced in black marble sheets. The veins in the marble appeared
white from a distance but were actually a very pale pink.

There was and area of the festival where folks could make their own art. This was a section of white board
used to mix black and white into various shades of gray.

Black and white striped umbrellas lined the edge of an upstairs balcony
restaurant. This shot is under black-and-white because it appears monochrome
despite being a color shot.

A plywood "Reagan For Governor" sign on plywood had weathered and fallen in half.
Later, a cat rested on the downed sign.
