"Solar Compass" Mural 2013, Artist: Anthony Padilla, Sponsor: Pence Gallery, Behind 212 D Street, Davis, California
A California poppy had been pulled, roots and all, from the ground. A circle of grass surrounded that stem, and two tiny
people lounged on the lawn.
A small sign off to the side of the mural read, in part: "Anthony Padilla. Solar Compass, 2013, Pence Gallery Sponsor."
Below those words was a, "In Memory of Martha Ann Richardson." And finally a list of other names.
The "Solar Compass" mural was painted on one of two back walls of the Pence Gallery in downtown Davis, California.
The mural extended to a power post set just off from the wall.
A small statue stood in front of the mural.
A large bee clung to the wall just to one side of flowing honey. To the left of the bee was the tiny sign describing this mural.
A bee hovered over one of three flowers that formed a California Poppy plant.
A bee high on the mural appeared to fly from the shade up toward the sun.
A circle with a hint of a smile inside solar rays formed the logo for the artist Anthony Padilla.
