The heart was on display near the back edge of the park just in front of the apartment complex, ironically just below a "Love Where," sign.

The sign identifying this sculpture was on the back side of its base, just under the eve of the apartment complex. The sign read:

Jim Dine
Big Heart on the Rock
Bronze
1984

The shadowed side of the heart. The side facing the apartment building, with the park laid out behind it. The buildings rising behind it were the Embarcadero Center.

This large, black textured heart is similar to a sculpture called Two Big Black Hearts 1985, at the DeCordova Museum. This sculpture was a mere 6 feet (about 2 meters) tall from its base on top of the bricks, whereas the Two Big Black Hearts were 12 feet tall each.

The front of the sculpture with the apartment complex behind it. Note that the rock on which it rested appeared somewhat organic.

A close-up shot of the rock. Note that it appears less like stone and more like something that has flowed, such as fresh volcanic lava internal link basalt flow.

A close-up shot of the front of the heart at the joint between the halves. What made this heart so powerful was its dramatic texture.
