Absence Of Emptiness, A Sculpture By Juergen Eckstein
A Plaque embedded in the grass near to the statue credited, "Absence Of Emptiness" by Juergen Eckstein,
Redwood --2012, Inspired by Gottfried Benn's
The statue featured a tight crowd of people all gathered into a confined space. The location of the statue
was well chosen, overlooking Nye Beach in Newport, Oregon.
The statue was composed of not just people. Near the top on this face were two owls.
On the backside of this "Absence Of Emptiness" statue was a stairway.
On the beach facing side of the sculpture was this face of a man, a scarf around his neck, and peeking out from
behind a carved woman's hair.
Also on the beach side of the sculpture was a goat's head next to the stairs.
A man carved into the town facing side of the sculpture gazed forever with longing at the town he would
never reach.
A man hung upside down from the sculpture and next to his upside down face were dozens of tiny faces crowded
together.
A woman's face was the highest person carved into this sculpture. She was facing the sea, the beach, and
the next tsunami.
