A new sign erected by Natsoulas Studio identified the mural. It read:

Kerry Rowland-Avrech and the
Davis Mural Team
Splash, 2012
natsoulas.com

The original sign was by the Davis Art Tour, but that sign had been removed, leaving an ugly hole. The new sign, the second sign, replaced the first.

The rightmost two of three storm drains were painted at the top of the mural. They spilled paint that was shaded to appear three-dimensional. That shading caused the paint to appear to float away from the surface of the wall.

A closer view of the leftmost pipe revealed white highlights that formed the edge of the liquid falling out of the pipes. That same white highlight gave the falling paint the appearance of ripples.
