Pax Jerusalemme
To reach the California Palace of the Legion of Honor, one must travel up 34th Avenue past
the golf course. About half way uphill, a glimpse of the sculpture came into view. It almost
looked like a military cannon from this angle.
The Pax Jerusalemme sculpture was installed in the center of the parking lot across the street
from the California Palace of the Legion of Honor.
From the front, this sculpture had two arms raised in the direction of the
California Palace of the Legion of Honor. Behind it were cyprus trees and a fabulous view of
the Golden Gate Bridge.
Seen from behind, the sculpture was clearly on an island in the center of the parking lot.
In the distance was the entry to the California Palace of the Legion of Honor. From this angle,
the horizontal disk of the sculpture could be clearly seen.
The central horizontal disk as seen from behind and to the right. Also notice how the legs join each other
in the middle.
Both of the two front feet ended on a flat steel plate that was bolted to a concrete slab underneath.
The view from the front looking up into the inside center. Notice how all the pieces
were bolted together.
The view looking up the right front leg at the horizontal disk.
A closeup of the edge of the horizontal disk. Notice the rough edge caused by its being
cut by a torch.
The view of the back of the sculpture from directly behind. Notice the two vertical half
disks attached to each front arm.
