"A People's History Of Telegraph Avenue" Mural 1976,1999, Design: Osha Neumann, Painted: O'Brien Thiele, Janet Kranzberg,Naniel Galvez, and many others, Dwight Way Near Telegraph Avenue, Berkeley, California

The mural on this wall was painted the year of the Bicentennial of the American Revolution to commemorate a more recent revolutionary period. It depicts the social and political movements that defined Berkeley in the Sixties beginning in 1964 with the Free Speech Movement and concluding five years later with the struggle accompanying the creation of People's Park on the eastern portion of this block.[from berkeley plaques]

The mural celebrates the creation of the adjacent Duboce Bikeway, by illustrating the importance of that little stretch of street to bicycle traffic in San Francisco. The Duboce Bikeway is the gateway to the Wiggle: a zig-zagging route through the Lower Haight that enables bicyclists to avoid steep hills when heading from East to West in San Francisco.
