The gathering took place in San Francisco's Union Square under a pouring rain. Many of those gathering took shelter under umbrellas.

In addition to umbrellas, folks also wore rain wear. Some wore rain coats, while others wore temporary rain ponchos.

One fellow was busy with information displayed on his phone. A man next to him pointed at the phone as if to express an opinion about it.

Police, Santas, and a photographer all took shelter under the awning of a ticket selling store.

Some umbrellas were color coordinated with the outfit worn. Others, as here, did not match, but then neither did they clash.

One fellow wore reflective sunglasses in the rain. His sunglasses reflected the scene immediately surrounding him.

A dramatic mustard and black umbrella covered a plain black one. Another umbrella was blue and cream checkered which matched the backpack.

A separate island of Santas gathered in the pathway below the main plaza of Union Square. They acted as if they were a separate group.

A Santa with a low belt, and a Mrs. Santa carried toys to donate. The donation receptacle was not readily evident.

A Santa was guzzling energy drinks to prepare for the evening ahead. Next to him, a Mrs. Santa carried a Christmas Tree purse complete with ornaments and a gold star.

An umbrella-less couple stood in the rain with a gift football to donate.

Many Santas gathered as the rain began to ease. Of all the Santas in this shot, only two wore fake beards.

A Santa and Mrs. Santa walked up Sutter Street on the way to the gathering in Union Square. They were late.
