2008, San Fancisco, Carnival Parade
He wondered, just then, at the expense of his sunglasses
A few liked to dance with feathered wooden sticks
Mysteriously the red cloth tried to escape
A nicely painted wall overlooked the parade
Oddly, the feathers momentarily seemed a bad idea
A strong man, they say, maintains a strong rhythm
For one woman the hat became the prime accessory
With presence of will she avoided counting beads
Blue, they knew, would be a good color
Ahead, the parade appeared to have stopped
No better time to text than during a parade
Even those driving enjoyed participating
The man aligned his mask a bit too late
His trumpet contributed to the video's sound
Two officers took a moment to consult
Sometimes music makes only one person smile
Clearly his whistle meant serious business
With her arm held out, she felt classic
At the wrong moment his bubble gun jammed
A blanket of many words passed by the viewers
A fierce lyric must always look fierce
Not all waved with equal enthusiasm
He considered himself just a cut above the others
Maybe not a holy man, but he surely looked the part
Some grass is meant to be worn not smoked
A quick check to see if the drum was in tune
A lowly branch can yet be highly symbolic
A veil of smoke was believed to provide protection
Sometimes a weave to the right can be most effective
Her song mesmerized even her own band
Her peace earings complimented her yellow dress
The mask just didn't like the look of those cameras
The pixie boy proved a modest hit
As they watched, the guitar continued to shrink
He briefly believed they were being flanked
She wanted to be a star and suddenly was one
Yellow feathers make the hats just perfect
The wish was honest, so she willingly granted it
Something in the crowd made him miss one note
He honestly believed his wife hogged the makeup
She imagined briefly floating on a feather bed
They waited for his count to reach three
A Bolivian banner lead the group
The design on her cheek completed her outfit
Her eyes bugged out at the sight of him
The parrot who took her eye had to ride outside
She danced with a real sense of gusto
The mask appeared less hollow than it was
He waved a jolly hello to those in the window
A whistle failed to stop them, so he poked
Her magic glasses worked despite that morning's curse
Already dancing, yet her upheld hand showed her readiness
With one wing broken, she could no longer fly
His legs grew so much he needed a higher bike
Fortunately her fan managed to keep her cool
One spectator appreciated his look
Despite its weight her hat proved bearable
Even the dogs knew how to dress for a parade
His prettiness factor gradually faded with age
His ability to fly was not the question to ask
She first leaned to the right as was rehearsed
Proudly her dress matched her fan
The patchwork display proved odd contrast to his pants
Such fun she felt as she danced with the others
Spears ready, they marched ahead of the giant
The man behind the man was firmly in control
The effects of the carnival mirror proved irreversable
The mime in the moon oversaw those below
Despite her height, she still wanted to fly higher
Ahh, those soft lilting tropical sounds
She wanted nothing to do with that pesky photographer
The time to march vigorously had not arrived yet
Her stilts provided tremendous lift
The mask, she felt, was better up
Although her face was veiled, her voice was clear
She considered one feather in her hat too few
Despite the tiny tambourines they still looked cool
Hello, she waved, without even looking
Too soon the flags overpowered her
His enthusiasm resulted in a loud shout
Then she showed how small her husbands head was
How strange to worship a head on one's own hand
The school's decorations already began to fail
There must be a better way to earn a buck
His merriment bordered on being contagious
She felt the sun, at that moment, strike perfectly
What appeared a mike, was really a long straw
He proudly waved the flag
The touchtone dancers dressed in dials
Some watched the parade from over a Taqueria
