Looff's San Francisco, Carousel
The monkey aided the camel for a gentler ride
The horse believed he had the biggest jewel of all
One horse wagged its tongue at the camera
The starting line was crowed with excited horses
The seating on many were lightly chipped
She was surprised a horse could eat a bone
Alone at the far end she was not happy
Living near Seattle, as a child, this particular carousel happened to
become the first carousel that my grandmother ever rode.
At Ocean Beach, it was the first (the same) carousel that my mother rode.
It was, also, the first carousel that I ever rode.
I've worked as an carousel restorer. And, I can tell you, Looff, is,
(in so many ways) the best!
Ornate mirrors lined the upper core
The upper, outer border was ringed with mirrors
The green dragon loved horse for breakfast
Its tar-like mane appeared to attack its neck
The camel indignantly became a coat rack
Dragon eternally cursed with a sour tongue
The horses were perpetually ready for the day's first child
A bird flew too fast and became stuck
Flowers decorated the back of one saddle
The eagle became the cantle of a saddle
She realized she really couldn't buy a ticket there
Rams provided great sport for all ages
The ram wore a fancy bridle that day
Knife and horn design seen on a saddle
The camel's neck was weighted in fancy jewels
The giraffes were almost too much fun to ride
Cursed to forever ride backward, he rode with dignity
The package was safely held by a blue strap
Large wagons offered a non-vertical ride
"Wish with care," he muttered bitterly
He was forever styled with a 50's pomp
The belief they could someday stampede again
And so they left, once more around the merry-go-round
