Concord United Methodist, Church
This particular Sunday morning people had gathered not for regular services but for
a wedding
The sign out front faced West Street and was titled, "Concord United Methodist Church".
The sign itself read, "Yes, God Loves You, Services 8, 9 & 10:30 AM, Miracles
Do Happen, Grace, www.concordumc.org"
The banner at the bottom advertised, "Vacation Bible School, June 20-24 1-4 PM
Call 685-6260 Now to Register."
The CUMC Community Orchestra was being rehearsed in Oglesby-Close Hall that afternoon.
The orchestra was organized by Doug Emigh, to include anyone in the community interested in performing orchestral music.
There was a large circular paved area in front of the church so that vehicles could make deliveries.
That area was otherwise open for children to romp.
A tray that ran along the inside back of all pews was used to store Bibles and Hymnals for
use during services. The very first row only had the hand rails shown here.
At the very front of the church inside was a huge back-lit cross. Candles were lit because
a wedding was about to start.
Here was one example of the several modest-sized stained glass windows that
lined both interior side walls. Daylight shining through these windows provided
a soft glow to the pews.
Here was a Hymnal that had been opened to this page so that the song thereon could
be sung. Music and words were both present.
This stained window was in the wall above the cross at the interior front of the church.
The rear inside of the church had this tall stained glass window. On this day a photographer
stood on the balcony just below the window to photograph the wedding.
This shot was taken while walking close by one of the stained glass windows along the side.
The administrative building lay next to Oglesby-Close Hall and behind the church itself.
Just to the right of the main entrance into the church was a small rose garden.
During the wedding it provided a handy backdrop for folks to take pictures of their
own small groups.
