Mangrove Tour, Quepos, Costa Rica
At first they appeared somewhat shy
A good lunch was served just before the tour
They rented kayaks too
The tide was out at the start of the tour
An unused rowboat was up on shore
The first mangrove trees floated past
Mangrove roots slowly create new land
A Bare-throated Tiger Heron was well hidden
The look of mangroves is unmistakable
Small crabs live on the mangrove roots
A fly landed on the boat's rail
A Little Blue Heron tried to slip away unseen
White-faced Capuchin monkeys approached the boat
The welcome sign for the tour said it all
One monkey stared at the boat from a distance
Fresh water mangroves did well inland
But they begin to brown as they near saltwater
Kayakers were spotted near the sea's entrance
A few fisher folk were tied up near shore
The newest entrance from the sea
Near the sea the waterway became large
A Boat-billed Heron was spotted high in a tree
A small beach appeared amid the mangroves
Odd, colorful mushrooms grew along one branch
A rundown house came into view along the shore
An iguana was found basking on the shore
Tide rising opened new side routes
The side roots could grow quite large
A logasaurus was found floating
Beyond the mangroves was open farmland
Monkeys were encountered a second time
A few came near the boat
They were looking for crabs to eat
Mmmm. Those crabs sure tasted good.
This is one of the crabs the monkeys ate
A real, wild snake was finally seen
The boat returned after the tide came in
A small Flycatcher was spotted among the palms
Upon return the rowboats were afloat
