Mexico Gate, As Part Of A Fence Structure
The word derives from the old Norse "gata", meaning road or path, and originally referred to the gap in the wall or fence, rather than the barrier which closed it. The moving part or parts of a gateway may be called "doors", but used for the whole point of entry door usually refers to the entry to a building, or an internal opening between different rooms. A red gate hung from green poles. Three rows of small circles softened the effect of an otherwise harsh, metal barrier.

A gate led to a car parked in a carport. The gate was only half open (or was it only half closed?).

A security gate down by the docks was topped with barbed wire. The gate itself was beat up in the center, yet could still be locked.
