Salmon Bake, In Juneau, Alaska A United States City
|
A sign on the table next to a roll of paper towels said,
in part, "Salmon Glaze Net wt. 5 oz (140 gm) Available in Gift Shop."
|
One of the first things you see upon entry is the
Gold Strike Saloon. It sold sodas and beer.
|
Salmon roasted over an open pit of fire. The wood burning was alder which gave the
fish a distinctively good smoked flavor.
|
The salmon was sandwiched in an iron grill that gave the fish its pattern of
X's when fully cooked.
|
The alder wood burning in the pit glowed red and radiated copious amounts of heat for cooking
the salmon.
|
Free drinks were available in small roofed stands to one side of the seating. Here were
the lemonade and ice water stands. Coffee was nearby.
|
A family of mallard ducks (a mother and five juveniles) wandered the grounds between
the tables and entertained the guests.
|
A man sang and played guitar to entertain the guests. His tip jar was the only
tip jar in the place. A sign on the wall behind the singer read:
|
Baskets of flowers were hung between the two seating areas. One seating area had a hard
roof, the other had soft plastic spread over it.
|
Each table had a roll of paper towels on it, and an Alaskan Amber beer box filled with
napkin wrapped silverware. Between the two (and not visible here) were bottles of
condiments.
|
A backdrop was set up with cutouts for faces. Nobody was using it at the moment but
it had five cutouts for four amusing possibilities.
|
Plastic tents covered the eating areas to protect them
from rain (and rarely sun). The eating area was
surrounded by a huge forest.
|
Two bonfires had been built. The kind of fires that
would be great for roasting marshmallows. Between the
fires was a covered stand inside of which were
long pointed sticks and marshmallows. Hence
this roasting of marshmallows was a discovery.
|
Old pieces from a farm or mine were scattered around the
ground surrounding the pond to one side of the eating
area.
|
A coffee stand was against a stone pillar near the lemonade and ice water. There was
plenty of coffee and a selection of creamers and sweeteners.
|
A video showing the family of mallard ducks in the pond next to the eating area of the Gold Creek Salmon Bake. The ducks were busily looking for food.
