"Magic Carpet" Bench, Artist: Donna Billick, And: The Community, Sponsored by: The John Natsoulas Gallery, Powered by: XtremeSignPost, Outside Davis Regal Theater, 101 F Street, Davis, California
A "Magic Carpet" floated over clouds as it flew high in the sky. This "Magic Carpet" bench art was a mosaic sculpted by
Donna Billick in front of the Davis Regal Theater in Davis, California.
The fringe of the "Magic Carpet", and the designs on the surface of the carpet, were all made of mosaic tiles and were
rock hard to the touch.
The designs, "woven" in to the surface of the mosaic carpet, were abstract, dramatic, and lovely.
The recognizable objects on the surface of the carpet were a horse, a fan, two fish, a Davis swim suit, a baseball and an
an American soccer ball (elsewhere football).
A sign on the foot of the carpet read:
A closer shot of the fringe of the "Magic Carpet" was composed of long thin white ceramic tiles. Notice how some overlaid
others which made it appear more real from a distance.
Someone had augmented the sculpture by leaving a roll of packing tape and a pair of scissors on top of the "Magic Carpet" as
if ready to fly off to the UPS store.
