Guadalupe-Nipomo, Dunes Center
The Dunes Center was a converted home located on quiet Guadalupe Street.
A large sign out front gave the Center's hours.
Out back were examples of fossils and bones that were found in the Dunes.
The side gate was the entrance. Note that ADA access was around the back. A curved path just inside
the yard provided access to signs and brochures that were available even if the Center were
closed.
Immediately ahead, once inside the Center,
was a long wooden table with a cloth runner down its center,
surrounded by a dozen wooden chairs.
The flagstone fireplace was unlit but surrounded by photos and other means of conveying
information about the Dunes.
The second floor was a large open loft filled with exhibits. This was the children's corner.
The other end was given over to archaeological exhibits of the early cinema days.
A case was filled with examples of bones and fossils found in the Dunes.
The Cecil B. DeMille film titled "The Ten Commandments," was shot in the Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes.
After the shoot the set was left to fall into ruin.
A statue's hand was left over from the "The Ten Commandments."
A found paw of one of the Egyptian creatures from the "Ten Commandments" was on display.
Examples of bones and and fossils found in the Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes area were on display in
a case.
Informative placards described everything from the origin of the Dunes to the history of the area.
