As you walk past the columns at the end of Haight Street, you will find a small lake in Golden Gate Park shaded by a cluster of trees. The man-made Alvord Lake dates back to the 1880s and was a part of the initial development of the eastern sections of the park. Follow the path along the lake to reach Alvord Bridge and Kezar Drive, which leads you towards Sharon Meadow. Named after park commission president William Alvord, it was he who donated the funds that led to the development of the lake.[from golden gate park website]

A carousel (American English: from French carrousel and Italian carosello), roundabout (British English),[1] or merry-go-round, is a type of amusement ride consisting of a rotating circular platform with seats for riders. The "seats" are traditionally in the form of rows of wooden horses or other animals mounted on posts, many of which are moved up and down by gears to simulate galloping, to the accompaniment of looped circus music.[from wikipedia]

A blend of old and newer features decorate the children's playground --a setting filled with a harmonious intermingling of rock, rubber, plastic, dirt, grass and sand. Children now cling to reach the next level of a towering rope climbing structure. A climbing wall shaped like waves offers textured exploration. With a piece of cardboard in hand, kids and adults alike can rip down the historic concrete slide.[from golden gate park website]
