The statue of General John J. Pershing stood on a pedestal surrounded by greenery. The statue was sculpted by Haig Patigian, an Armenian-American artist.

The statue of General John J. Pershing was erected on a pedestal kitty corner and across the street from the de Young Museum. A crosswalk and stop sign provided a semi-safe means to access the sculpture.

A handsome arrangement of green shrubs and flowers were arranged around the base of the General John J. Pershing sculpture.

The artist's signature was etched into the base of the General John J. Pershing sculpture just below the right boot. It read, "Haig Patigian 1921."
