A series of brass plaques bordered the stairs leading up into Union Square in downtown San Francisco. Each plaque described a different plant. Notice that level entry into the square was a block away.

The first and lowest plaque had an image of flowers and was labeled, "Blue-eyed Grass."

The next plaque held an image of a pond plant. This plaque was labeled: "Yellow Pond Lily."

The third plaque displayed an image of Horsetail plants. It was labeled, "Horsetail."

The topmost or last plaque held an image of, and was labeled, Crimson Columbine.
