"Cataract" 1995
Artist: Ken Spiering
The Plaza
Downtown Spokane Bus Terminal

These cast bronze cougar sculptures, one male and one female, were commissioned in 1993 and installed at The Plaza in 1995. The title "Cataract," was chosen to reference the cats, also being synonymous with 'cascade' and 'waterfall.' It could also suggest having a little blindness in the beginning of a relationship. A sign on a chrome stand described the sculpture. That sign also warned, "For your safety, please do not climb on the cougars."

The upper cougar watched the wide Plaza lobby. In this particular instance it watched a security man watching the photographer take this photo.
