Mission Street was empty and absent all parked cars. The red SFMTA bus only lane was obvious in the absence of traffic.

Carts were rolled down the street and souvenirs offered for sale to the waiting public.

A family gathered on the sidewalk displayed two Cuban flags.

Bicycle police patrolled the parade route to insure safety. Behind them, the San Francisco Lowrider Council's cars were distantly visible leading the parade.

The sidewalks began to fill. The parade began at 10:00 a.m. at Bryant and 24th Street. Here at Mission and 15th, the parade still had not arrived at 10:40 a.m.

Motorcycle police led the parade.

The motorcycle police passed which officially marked the start of the parade.

After the lowriders had passed, the parade itself began. The first comparsa (contingent) was the official sign for the parade.

A gap in the parade occurred roughly halfway through it. A fifteen minute window of time during which not much happened. On the sidewalk, the crowd became restless and bored.
