The Rowboat, As Human Powered Transport
|
An old, somewhat worn fiberglass rowboat had been pulled high up onto the beach and left there. Its oar locks had been removed and someone
had laid a blue t-shirt over its bow.
|
An old, thin-walled fiberglass rowboat was visible from Monterey Wharf. Down below, its wooden seats and oars could be seen, as well as a bit of trash.
|
Row boats and electric boats were for rent at the boat house.
Here, a rowboat was stored leaning against a post on shore.
|
The water out on the bay was a little rough that day, with low clouds threatening the air show.
Here was one brave fellow, rowing the bay alone in a small rowboat.
|
An inflatable dinghy, when rowed, can become a rowboat. Here the boat was rowed into the floating docks
from a sailboat moored off shore.
|
A rowboat on the lake drew near a tree. The tree almost resembled a dinosaur
head, or dragon head, leaning over the water ready to snap up the rowboat
as a morsel.
|
This rowboat was seen from the bridge over the lake. The lake surrounds an island and the lake is shaped
like a doughnut. Hence bridges over it.

The nice thing about a city lake is that it gives city folk a chance to
learn to row. Here a man was just beginning to understand the theory.

The canal boat was a motor craft that putted slowly up the canal. Yet even slow, the
canal boat created swells. Here a blue rowboat was caught in those swells as the canal
boat passed.

The sun was about an hour from setting when we moored just across from this rowboat.
Three photographers sat on deck and waited for the best light. This is one of the
three good shots taken, see also

A well crafted old rowboat was found tied to shore near a marina. The red rub-rail and
the faded green suggest this was once a very handsome boat.
|
A rowboat stored upside down on the canal shore. The ropes were strung as a fence
to keep canal boaters away from the rowboat.
|
An old metal rowboat was found tied up near the canal shore. It still floated
so was clearly not abandoned.
|
This finely made wooden row boat was spotted just off the Embarcadero
in San Francisco Bay. It was far away but appeared to be hand made.
|
In general it is not wise to stand in a rowboat but, at the wide end, it is most stable.
Here the man was about to stand and look through binoculars.
|
The sun was just setting that afternoon and a family paused from rowing to take in
the placid scene.
|
A motorized rowboat could somehow seem like cheating. But remove the motor and it
becomes a rowboat again. Here, a motorized rowboat was used by staff to
maintain the lake.

Canal de la Somme runs through the north of France. Mostly through the scenic
Somme Valley. Although wide and well groomed for the most part, the canal can
become rustic in places such as this.

Saint-Valery, France is on the northern coast just below Great Britain.
Here a small rowboat was moored just off shore in the English Channel.
